If you are thinking of furnishing an office then there are a few things that you should know before you get started. This is because you really do want to get it right the first time, so your office can be a comfortable and productive environment to work in and you wont have to keep going back to make adjustments. You will want your office to be a relaxing place yet it must be durable in that the furnishings there will be getting far more use then standard household furnishings.

If you are going to use throw rugs, which are great for breaking up space, then make sure that they have some padding underneath to protect them from wear and are firmly attached to the floor so they wont slip. If clients or potential customers are going to be visiting your office then you will want to set up a small “comfort area”, where they can relax while they wait. Put out a coffee pot and some of your promotional literature that they can brows through while they wait. Another idea is to have a small video screen playing promotional video material while they wait.

All of this means that they will be more relaxed and informed which is all to your benefit. You might also consider hanging some pre-framed prints featuring wildlife or outdoor scenes on the walls to help people to relax. You also may opt to hang prints that feature scenes relating to the business genre that you are in but they must be pleasing to look at. House plants are another excellent addition to any office space and there are fake plants available now that are virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. No matter how tempted you are, don’t buy real plants, because they will most likely slowly die off.
